Meet Sabrina
My name is Sabrina Shields-Cook, and I am a candidate for the Ames School Board. I am a long-time resident of Ames and a 1996 graduate from Ames High School. My husband and I currently have four children in the district: a tenth grader at Ames High School, an eighth grader at Ames Middle School, a third grader at Meeker Elementary, and a preschooler at Northwood Preschool Center. I have volunteered in different capacities at each of the schools my children have attended and have been an active member
of the Meeker PTO for ten years.
Having children at different schools and levels in Ames has given me the opportunity to see first-hand some of the challenges the district is facing at each level. I am committed to listening to parents, teachers, and administrators, plus researching and asking questions to fully understand those challenges and their proposed solutions. I believe we are stronger when everyone’s voices are heard.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a minor in Spanish from the University of Iowa and a Master of Arts in Rhetoric and Professional Communication from Iowa State University. I currently work full-time as an Academic Adviser in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University. I am an active volunteer for several community organizations, a Girl Scout troop leader, and a lover of books and nature.

Testimonials
Sabrina is kind, welcoming, organized, communicative, and builds relationships and community. I trust her to stand for what’s best for children, families, and this community as a whole. She also has children in all levels of the ACSD (pk, elementary, middle, and high). I trust her to be thoughtful about needs across the whole district. I am so excited to see Sabrina as a part of the school board!
